Where: The Old Brewery, Hertford, SG14 1QW

This display, which continues until 14th July, traces the development of Davie’s practice over the last sixty years, highlighting particular moments in his visual journey. Loaned from the artist’s estate, it features seldom seen drawings and paintings whose kaleidoscopic medleys of gestures, forms and signs celebrate a world of imagination beyond the reality of the now.

Draw Jam by Jane Glynn & Michael Wright

11.00am - 4.00pm | Hertford Castle Lawn

Join us for a day of socialising and art making on the glorious lawn of Hertford Castle for our Draw Jam where anyone can come along to draw and hang out. Our two resident artists, Jane Glynn and Michael Wright will be on hand, loaded with materials from pencils to Chinese brushes, to guide jammers on their journey into spontaneous drawing from the imagination and to facilitate a series of gigantic collaborative drawings to be displayed in Hertford Library.

Free, suitable for all age groups, drop in.

Are you aged 16-24 and looking to build your writing and performing skills? Come along to this free workshop led by Loud Poets to learn some tips and tricks to writing and performing, whether you're a complete beginner or well-versed in verse there's something there for everyone!

Join us for a sizzling headline evening of rare-groove style funk and jazz courtesy of The James Taylor Quartet. Famed for their upbeat, energetic live shows since their first 1987 single, Blow-Up, the funked-up cover of the version of Herbie Hancock's main theme from the seminal 1960s film of the same name, in which Alan Davie’s art famously appeared.

Loud Poets - Late Night Evening

Open Mic event of slam style, noisy poetry.

Bring your friends for a one night only late-night cabaret bar at Hertford Theatre with a set by the up and coming, award winning Scottish collective Loud Poets. Loud by name and loud by nature, Loud Poets will perform a variety of solo and multi-voice pieces showcasing the best spoken word has to offer. As confirmed by their growing UK fan base, this is slam-style, make some noise, fist thumping, pint drinking, side tickling, heart wrenching poetry.

At the Let Us Leap launch party, you can enjoy a complimentary refreshment courtesy of McMullen’s Brewery, see the exhibition of Alan Davie’s dazzling paintings and discover Hertford Arts Hub’s future plans for The Old Brewery and nearby Old British School. During the course of the evening the celebrated poet, Michael Horovitz, will read some of Davie’s words.
