AD Bird Headed Serpent

The sample mosaic created by Claire Costello which will be available to view around Hertford. It depicts Davie’s 1971 work ‘Offering of the Bird-Headed Serpent’, and also served as the cover of his first album of free jazz.

Hertford Arts Hub is launching a project to build support for the creation and installation of a large-scale mosaic mural of Alan Davie images in Hertford, to celebrate his heritage and association with the town. Davie is an internationally renowned artist, collected by major institutions across the world. He lived and worked at Rush Green, Hertford for 60 years, until his death in 2014. There is already a large mosaic in Alan Davie’s birthplace, Grangemouth, Falkirk, so it would seem appropriate to do the same in the town where he created most of his remarkable artistic legacy.

We will be working in conjunction with Courtyard Arts, local mosaicist Claire Costello and as many local participants as we can

Images will be selected from the book ‘Alan Davie in Hertford’. If you have a preferred image - whole or partial - please let us know and become part of the process.
